little shop, listening and blocking

I am directing a show this semester as you may well know and it scares me to death. I have been having trouble seeing in my head what I want it to look like and how to accomplish it anyway. In my frustration, I put in the CD of the show and started listening. Like a book on tape, my mind started seeing what was going on on the stage, even though I have never seen this show. I find it so interesting that I am able to see thing when given something to base my ideas from- like I hear the music, so I can see the blocking and the dancing. It is so cool! I had almost the entire show blocked after listening to the soundtrack. The realy crazy thing is that now I have a running start and I am able to block the scenes that do not have any music when I was not able to before. Can anyone explain why that is?
I have my little set design, and while I am listening to the music, my pencil jsut goes and draws where I want people to stand, be and what I want them to do. I think it is so interesting that the music is what has helped me figure out how i want this to look.
